Innovative Power Concepts Products that are “The next step beyond renewable energy”
2
Agenda Setting the stage – the U.S. without power Battery Statistics Our Approach The AC Power Box The multi-purpose Battery Charger Innovative Power Concepts
3
The US Without Power What causes power outages? – Hurricanes – Blizzards – Severe Thunderstorms – Ice Storms – Tornados – Extreme Heat Waves Power outages can last from a few hours to several weeks What starts as an inconvenience can quickly become a criticality
4
Case Study: Hurricane Sandy Oct 29, 2012 – 8pm – Hurricane Sandy makes landfall at Atlantic City, NJ, with wind speeds of 80 MPH Oct 29, 2012 – 11pm – Storm surge peaked at 13.88 ft. Oct 30, 2012, overnight – Con Edison states that Hurricane Sandy caused the largest power outage in its history Oct 30, 2012 - 5:42 PM EDT: As of 5:15 p.m. Eastern time, an estimated 1,258,923 people in 10 states are without power. Oct 30, 2012 - 6:00 PM EDT: New York City power company Con Edison warns residents in low- lying, flood-prone areas, and Manhattan residents living below 36th Street, that they “may have to shut off their electrical service if the underground electrical equipment becomes inundated with water.” Timeline of Events:
5
The US Without Power What do consumers do when a pending storm is approaching? – Raid the local stores for: Water Medication Food Batteries Flashlights
6
Battery Statistics Recycling programs at retail outlets are only scratching the surface – waste caused by disposing of single-use batteries is a true environmental problem. When dumped into landfills, batteries can leach mercury, lead, cadmium and nickel into the groundwater. US consumers throw away approximately 2.9 billion batteries per year - or 179,000 tons – that end up in landfills US consumers purchase 3 billion batteries annually, averaging 32 per family or 10 per person
7
Our Approach We repurpose depleted, single-use batteries – Depleted batteries have approximately 60-70% of remaining energy left – Not enough to power the most simplest of home devices – such as flashlight – But more than enough to power the AC Power Box
8
The AC Power Box Converts DC power to AC power Harnesses energy from depleted single-use batteries Powered by 1.5 Volt flashlight batteries - new or depleted Powers LED lights and radios for multiple, consecutive hours without any degradation in performance
9
AC Power Box with 1.5 Volt flashlight battery The AC Power Box
10
Power Box Battery Charger (to be announced) Charges rechargeable batteries Charges non- rechargeable batteries Recharges cell phone batteries Last for months on one battery
11
Power Box Battery Charger A versatile battery charger that recharges: rechargeable batteries non-rechargeable batteries cell phone batteries Use on a boat, in an RV, when camping, or when normal power sources are not available. Last for months on a single battery and can be stored safely for extended time periods to be used when needed. Measurements: 7”W x 5”H x 3”D Weight: 3 lbs. with 6 volt battery Weight:
12
Mini – AC Power Box Converts DC power to AC power and harnesses energy from single-use batteries. - Powered by a single 1.5 Volt flashlight AA battery. - Powers LED lights and radios for multiple, consecutive hours without any degradation in performance. Measurements: 4”L x 2”W x 1” D Note: to be redesigned before distribution Weight: +/- 6 oz. with battery. Availability: TBD
13
AC Power Box “Emergency Power when the Power goes Out” AC Power Box purpose Provide power to lights and a radio Using an inexpensive, safe, and well-known energy source Use Cases Any emergency when power is lost Hurricanes, blizzards, tornadoes, floods, ice storms Camping, on a boat, in an RV, in a tent
14
AC Power Box Converts DC power to AC power and harnesses energy from single-use batteries. Powered by 1.5 Volt flashlight batteries (D, C, AA, or AAA) Powers LED lights and radios for multiple, consecutive hours without any degradation in performance. Measurements: 5”W x 5”H x 3/12” D Note: to be redesigned before distribution Weight: Less than 15 oz. with battery.
15
Innovative Power Concepts The AC Power Box has been issued a provisional patent (application # 61954896) Multiple products for emergencies in development The goal…to provide emergency products that run on 1.5 volt depleted batteries We want to help keep the planet GREEN!
16
What we are looking for We are seeking a partner that: – Can provide the financial, test and development, and sales and marketing resources to help take the AC Power Box and Multi-purpose Battery Charger to market – Can convert a design from prototype to a finished product, designed for home use – Has an existing channel infrastructure to where the AC Power Box and Charger can be sold – Has the means to promote, and enable, an effective recycling of single- use batteries – Shares our passion for being environmentally friendly Our goal is to provide a portfolio of emergency products that run on depleted single-use batteries. We want to help keep the planet GREEN!
