1
Tilted Calf Cuff
2
Indications Calf Band Shapes
3
Indications Calf bands and cuffs should follow general outline of posterior calf and anterior tibia
4
Indications If there is a substantial difference between the proximal and distal calf circumference the band should be tilted accordingly
5
Indications If there is a substantial difference between the proximal and distal calf circumference the band should be tilted accordingly
6
Indications If the cuff on a tilted calf band continues in the same direction as the band, uneven pressure can result
7
Indications If the cuff on a tilted calf band continues in the same direction as the band, uneven pressure can result
8
Indications To equalize calf cuff pressure it must be redirected accordingly
9
Indications To equalize calf cuff pressure it must be redirected accordingly
10
Cuff Layout Determining amount of cuff tilt
11
Cuff Layout Layout a line on tracing paper at least a band’s width from the edge
12
Cuff Layout Place the proximal edges of the AFO along this line
13
Cuff Layout Place the proximal edges of the AFO along this line Set a combination square against the proximal edge of the calf band
14
Cuff Layout Place the proximal edges of the AFO along this line Set a combination square against the proximal edge of the calf band Mark the point of contact on the tracing paper
15
Cuff Layout Measure the distance between the mark you just made and the baseline. Record this measurement
16
Cuff Layout Measure the distance between the mark you just made and the baseline. Record this measurement
17
Calf Layout Creating Pattern
18
Calf Layout Layout a line = to the largest circumference + 2 ½”
19
Calf Layout Layout a line = to the largest circumference + 2 ½” Layout another line parallel to first line and at distance previously measured
20
Calf Layout Layout a line = to the largest circumference + 2 ½” Layout another line parallel to first line and at distance previously measured Determine and mark the center point of this line
21
Calf Layout Measure smallest inside calf band circumference
22
Calf Layout Divide this measurement by 2 and lay out resultant measurement on either side of the midline
23
Calf Layout Now connect these points with the endpoints of the first line drawn
24
Calf Layout Draw perpendicular lines at several points along the lines previously drawn The height of these lines should be equal to the desired width of your calf cuff
25
Calf Layout Now connect all points as shown
26
Calf Layout When completed, your pattern should resemble this
27
Calf Layout Be sure to position the cuff on the calf band so that the ends are perpendicular to the uprights
28
