Early Life Harry S. Truman was born in Lamar, Missouri. He was born on the date May 8, 1884. His parents were John Anderson Truman and Martha Ellen Young Truman. He graduated high school in 1901 in Independence, Missouri.

Family Harry had two siblings. He had one brother, who was named Vivian Truman. He had one sister, who was named Mary Jane Truman.

National Guard Service Truman served 6 years in the National Guard. He served from the years 1906 – 1911.

Truman in WWI Harry Truman served in WWI He served in the year of 1917 He organized the 2 nd Regiment of Missouri Field Artillery

Marriage Harry married a woman named Bess Wallace on June 28, 1919 They had known one another since they were small children but were not married until their mid – 30’s.

Children Harry and Bess Truman had one child. This child was a girl named Mary Margaret Truman Mary Margaret was born on February 17, 1924.

Truman the Businessman Harry and his wartime friend, Mr. Eddie Jacobson, started and ran a Men’s Clothing Store in Kansas City, Kansas. The store failed.

Held Offices Prior to the Presidency In 1922, Harry was elected to be one of three judges on the Jackson County Court. There he made a name for himself through his honesty and fairness. He was not re-elected for this position in 1924

Continued Harry was however, elected to be the presiding judge over the Jackson County Court in 1926 He did in fact win re-election for this position in 1930

Continued Harry then went on to being elected to the position of United States Senate He was elected to this position in 1934

Continued Harry was then re-elected to his position on the United States Senate in the year of 1940

Vice-President Harry ran for Vice-President with Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1944 However, he was only Vice-President for 82 days.

Takes Over as President Harry took over as the President of the United States after Franklin D. Roosevelt died on April 12, 1945 Harry S. Truman became the 33 rd President of the United States

Presidency Harry is most famous for being the President to authorize the dropping of the Atomic Bombs on the Nation of Japan. Harry also made many strides for civil rights as President The most famous of these is when Harry integrated the military and forbade discrimination in government employees.

Re-election Harry was re-elected for the position of President in the year 1948 despite being predicted to lose
