What are the benefits of using a Wikispace in the Classroom: Discussion: initiate online discussions with your students Email: Communication with peers on homework and collaborative projects Allows students to work collaboratively on group projects online Invite another class to join your wiki and work collaboratively with you - at your school, a nearby school or a sister school overseas! Use it as a website for your class / year level / school that you can easily update yourself Showcase student work online in the form of digital images (can be photos of student work), Word documents, Powerpoint presentations, digital movies or digital audio recordings - a great motivator

Post topic-specific web links for your students to access, to save them time in typing out URLs or Google searching Put handouts and newsletters online for students / parents to access from school or from home Students are motivated to write for a real audience (Parents can be invited see what the students have been working on in the previous week) Conference with students on their drafts - all revisions to a page are tracked in the history Make your wiki public (anyone can access) or private (only members can access with a username and password)

How does using a Wikispace correlate to VELS? Literacy: reading and writing (recount, information, explanation, report, procedural and persuasive) ICT: Visual Thinking, Creating, Communication Personal Learning: researching, discussing, gathering and managing information. Interpersonal: respect, sharing, responsibility, agreed goals, collaboration Communication: viewing, responding, reflecting and presenting. Thinking: Reasoning, processing, inquiring, creativity, reflection, evaluation.
