Network Objectives Forum for sharing best practice in CDT delivery, developing repository of expertise Enhance student experience by giving practical and financial support for national shared events for DE students Increase sustainable impact of DE PGR by Supporting individual events with high impact Delivering specialist entrepreneurial training (YES) Improve specialist skills by running specialist collaborative events Support outreach activities from individuals and groups of students “Cohort of Cohorts” Digital Economy Doctoral Training Network Sharing best practice Large scale shared events Sustainable impact New collaborative initiatives Community outreach and dissemination

Practicalities 5 years of funding, start date 1 st December 2013 Network manager job currently advertised (60% role) All funding awarded at 80% FEC No staff costs funded beyond investigators and network manager Aim to have rapid and agile process Flexible, responsible and inclusive approach (e.g. including non CDT students where possible) Expect small financial commitment from student participants (aiming at no more than £50 per event) Some funding already allocated to known activities (£346k), some biddable (£115k) Annual review of budget allocation in response to funding priorities Digital Economy Doctoral Training Network Sharing best practice Large scale shared events Sustainable impact New collaborative initiatives Community outreach and dissemination

Theme 2: Large Scale Shared Events Aim: general events for a large number (most) of DE students DE Summer School (Nottingham, 2010; Lancaster, 2011; Oxford, 2013; Paris/QMUL, 2014) £7,000 per year allocated Anticipation of matched/leveraged funding Biddable activities £5,000 per year allocated Examples: seminar days, symposia, mini conferences Focus of discussion this morning Digital Economy Doctoral Training Network Sharing best practice Large scale shared events Sustainable impact New collaborative initiatives Community outreach and dissemination

Theme 3: Sustainable Impact Aim: Enhance rapid and long-term impact of DE PGR activities for individuals or small groups Digital Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (Digital YES) £15k per year allocated National event run for at least 30 students Expectation of matched/leveraged funding Biddable activities £8k per year allocated Industry visits, funding to work with research users Maximum £2k per award One round of applications per year (date TBC) Should not have otherwise been funded by Impact Acceleration Account Digital Economy Doctoral Training Network Sharing best practice Large scale shared events Sustainable impact New collaborative initiatives Community outreach and dissemination
