Brookside Recycled Energy from Waste Community Interest Company We are a social enterprise newly incorporated in the estate of Brookside, Telford.. Brookside is a densely populated estate of 1800 homes within a circular road.

What do we want to do? Divert food waste from our homes to a central point Use this waste to fuel a micro anaerobic digester. The digester will produce heat, electricity, fertilizer.

About our anaerobic digester..... Made by SEAB in Southampton. Micro - no more than 700 kg day. Plug and play - within a shipping container. Integrated Combined Heat and Power unit - 15 kwh. Integrated pasteuriser for waste.

What will it cost? Return on Investment? £200,000 defensively budgeted Income streams 1.) Renewable Heat Premium 2.) Feed in Tariff for electricity 3.) Direct savings for community centre 4 ) Digestate = fertilizer

How do we plan to operate? Paid co-ordinator / gate keeper. Waste walked in by volunteers. Links with adjacent school - waste brought in as part of the school run. Kids motivating parents. Waste hand sorted for contaminants.

Economic Feasibility. European Bio Energy Research Institute at Aston University - E.U. funded feasibility study. Initial capital investment paid off 5 to 7 years. Significant financial income after this point.

Progress so far Community engagement - Unled funded. Every home leaflet through door. Public meeting held Site visit with interested residents.

Benefits Financial - "sticky" money for the community. Educational - links with learning outcome. Social - building community pride / worth Opportunity for meaningful voluntary work for time rich in our community.

Obstacles remaining. Council contract with Veolia - making the council cautious about being seen to support us Consequent challenge to secure site previously hoped for. Funding. Too small for Green Investment Bank. Own lottery funding a possibility.
