2 + Native American artists became known as the "Kiowa Five" were James Auchiah, Spencer Asah, Jack Hokeah, Stephen Mopope, and Monroe Tsatoke Lois (Bougetah) Smoky was also in the group which is why it is sometimes referred to as the Kiowa Six They were young and they were Kiowa Indians from the Anadarko area of Oklahoma. They became international celebrities

3 + They created a new style of painting that depicted social and ceremonial scenes from Kiowa life The perspective was flat and the paintings had lots of detail They’d studied at their school in Anadarko before attending the University of Oklahoma

9 + Maria and Marjorie Tallchief, Rosella Hightower, Moscelyne Larkin and Yvonne Chouteau danced their way into the hearts of art lovers throughout the world Maria and Marjorie Tallchief are of Osage heritage; Rosella Hightower of Choctaw heritage; Moscelyne Larkin of half- Shawnee-Peoria heritage; and Yvonne Chouteau of Shawnee- Cherokee heritage.

10 + Maria Tallchief was the first American to be named the prima ballerina Her sister Marjorie was also a well- known ballerina All five women were honored during their careers and did much to promote the culture of Native Americans internationally
