Tools at Your Disposal Three outcome-based planning tools to process these question are: Outcome Map – Refine and add outcomes and/or strategies Context & Assumptions – Articulate what you believe is happening Process – Consider the audiences and stakeholders that are involved in your processes 6

Homework During the winter break, please work with your team to accomplish the following by Wednesday January 12 th, 2011 so that our team can work with you to create a simple presentation: 1.Draft a list of critical questions for your state’s QRIS (like those we discussed in session 2 and those teased from your last homework assignment) 2.Draft a list of outcomes you hope that your QRIS will generate and for which you think the QRIS should be held accountable 3.Draft a simple 30,000 Outcome Map for your state QRIS, using the tool provided or something more useful to you. 4.Be prepared to present your draft outcome map to your peers at the January 26 th of February 13 th meeting (25-30 minutes presentation and peer consultation for each state team) 7

State Presentations Things to Have in Mind Critical Questions that Inform(ed) Your Thinking Refinements to Outcome Maps – Check your “so that” chains for conceptual clarify – Leave you resources sections open so that other stakeholders can provide guidance and support – Thing about how color and other formatting helps to focus attention or clarify – What worked well in creating this? What was more difficult? What Narrative Elements Might Support Your Theory? – Purposes – Context and assumptions – Audiences What Stakeholder Processes Will Be Involved? 8
