Importing files into the Library www.navori.comPrecision Tools for Digital Signage Professionals1-800-720-2751 Whenever you import a new media file into the Media Library, Tycoon looks in the MediaClip folder. This folder is created when you install Tycoon and it is located under the application folder as indicated in the illustration. It’s best if you store all your files in this folder but if you don’t, Tycoon will copy them for you when you add a new Media Clip to the Library. You can create sub-folders to organize your material but do not move your files once they have been registered in the library. Doing so will prevent Tycoon from retrieving your media when you update your Players.

Adding a Media Clip to the Library www.navori.comPrecision Tools for Digital Signage Professionals1-800-720-2751 To add a new Media Clip, proceed as follows: Right click in the Folder where you wish to add the new Clip. Select New > Media Clip. The Media Clip folder window will pop up. Select the file you wish to add. Click Open to add the media file. The New Media Clip window will open…

Adding a Media Clip to the Library www.navori.comPrecision Tools for Digital Signage Professionals1-800-720-2751 By default, Tycoon will retrieve the name of the file and display it in the Name field. You can edit this name or leave it as is. Do not change the Path as this is where Tycoon will look to retrieve the physical file when updating your Players. Tycoon will automatically calculate and display the duration of any video or animation file, including PowerPoint content. All static media like JPEG images or web pages will be assigned a duration of 7 seconds by default.

The Validity Fields www.navori.comPrecision Tools for Digital Signage Professionals1-800-720-2751 When you create a new Media Clip, the Validity Start and End (date and time) will be identical. They will both display the date and time the Media Clip was created. If you do nothing and leave these fields unchanged, your Media Clip will be always valid. This means if you add it to a currently scheduled Playlist and update your Players, it will start playing right away. But what if you want to show this Media Clip for a specific number of days and not necessarily today? You enter a Start date and time (say in a month or so, at noon) and then enter an End date and time (one month later, also at noon).
7
The Validity Fields www.navori.comPrecision Tools for Digital Signage Professionals1-800-720-2751 This means your Media Clip will be sent to your Players and it will be stored on the hard drive and sit there until it is in a Playlist that is scheduled to play (during which it is valid). So even if you place this Media Clip in a Playlist that is scheduled to play today (and extends over the next few months), this clip will only play during the date range it is valid. Once a Media Clip has expired, it no longer plays, even if you leave it in a scheduled Playlist. You may “reactivate” an expired Media Clip if it has not been deleted. Simply reset the Start and End times in its Validity fields. Use of validity is not mandatory. It is completely optional but it can be a very powerful feature.
8
Auto-Purge of Expired Media Clips www.navori.comPrecision Tools for Digital Signage Professionals1-800-720-2751 It is possible to have Tycoon auto-purge all expired Media Clips. First, open the Group Options window. Under the General tab, look at the bottom and notice “Physically Delete Expired Media Clips” next to the open check box. If you check this box, the following window will pop-up: This is to alert you that enabling this option will remove all expired Media Clips from your Library, Playlists and also delete the files from your Player’s hard drives. NOTE: Original media files in your MediaClip folder on your TS PC will not be deleted.

Other fields www.navori.comPrecision Tools for Digital Signage Professionals1-800-720-2751 You may enter a comment in the “Comment” field. You can also use this field to select MUTE. This comment is used to mute the audio in a video clip for example when there is another clip in a Mosaic that also plays audio. You can use this command to temporarily disable the audio playback for a specific clip. The “Information” fields are optional. You may enter references to your Advertising Agency partner our a reference for your Customer. The contents of these fields are then listed in Tycoon Media Statistic reports. You can use them to group together all data relating to a specific Ad Agency or Client.
10
Other fields www.navori.comPrecision Tools for Digital Signage Professionals1-800-720-2751 The last field is called “Attached Files”. This field can be used to associate one or more files to the main Media Clip file. Any file listed in this field will be copied to each Player with the Media Clip. This feature is mainly used when you have a Flash or Director file that relies on an external text file for content. For example, some Flash developers will separate textual content from a Flash animation. This lets them use a single Flash file and substitute an external Text or XML file without having to create multiple Flash files with the different versions of the text included. It is a very efficient way to “localize” content such as when you need to display text in multiple languages. Simply have your Flash developer create a main Flash animation and store the text in external files. Then, let Tycoon send the associated files with your Flash Media Clip to your Players.
11
BEST PRACTICES Always use the MediaClip folder to store all your media files. Don’t change media files location or you will have problems when updating your Players. You cannot share Media Clips (as in, drag and drop Media Clips from one Group to another). You must create a new Media Clip in the other Group even if you are pointing to the same media file. To create a HTML (web page) Media Clip, select New > Media Clip then click Cancel when the File dialog box opens. This will return you to the New Media Clip Window where you will enter the full URL for the web page (including http://...) www.navori.comPrecision Tools for Digital Signage Professionals1-800-720-2751
