3  The ASHE advocacy highway is a two-way street of communication between ASHE and chapter advocacy liaisons  The goal of the advocacy highway is to support communication and improve advocacy efforts at the national, state and local level

4  Gives us the opportunity to share national issues at the local level  Gives us the opportunity to share your local advocacy issues nationally

5  ASHE will keep chapter advocacy liaisons up-to- date about national advocacy efforts and issues affecting health care facilities  ASHE will provide practical tools and resources to empower chapter advocacy liaisons

6  S&C 13-58 LSC issued August 30, 2013  Covers several “categorical waivers”  Simplified process doesn’t require formal approval  These waivers are effective immediately

7  Allows substitution of a centralized computer system for one Category 1 medical gas master alarm.

9  Reduces the annual diesel-powered generator exercising requirement from two (2) continuous hours to one hour and 30 minutes.

12  Reduction in the testing frequencies for sprinkler system vane-type and pressure switch type waterflow alarm devices to semiannual, and electric motor-driven pump assemblies to monthly.

13  Allows the increase in size of containers used solely for recycling clean waste or for patient records awaiting destruction outside of a hazardous storage area to be a maximum of 96- gallons

14  Covers Waivers Previously Listed in S&C12-21  Corridor width  Fixed furniture and crash carts and movement aids allowed in the corridor  Decorations  Increases the amount of wall space that may be covered by combustible decorations  Kitchens open to the corridor  Fireplace provision

15  Document your desire and that you comply with the waiver provisions in your policy and procedures manual.  Verbally announce that you are requesting the waivers at each entrance interview  Check with your State Agency and verify the waivers will be accepted for licensing
