Tonight’s Objectives: Provide information on the scheduling process Review the graduation requirements Outline available courses List the course levels available Present a typical 9 th Grade schedule Identify the scheduling timelines

High School Transition What makes high school different? –Most rapid period of growth in a young person’s life –Influences and stresses: Activities/sports/friends –Quality vs. Quantity: Trying to do too much –Personality/Academic patterns are continuing to be set –Permanent Record begins –Graduation requirements (College/Trade/Technical Schools/Military entrance requirements) –Post Secondary Planning begins –“Everything Counts!”

Bringing you up-to-date: WMC Juniors have been to the Middle school twice to talk with the 8th Graders about the scheduling process. Jr’s will be back in June to address Activities/Athletics/Rotational Schedule Program of Studies Booklets were distributed to all 8th Graders to bring home. 8th Graders visited to WMC last week. Mr. Ryan and Mr. Ferreri spoke concerning course selection and Mr. Ferreri spoke concerning course selection and the Elective Programs. and the Elective Programs. Middle School teachers to forward “level” recommendations in the mail. 8th grade parents are returning your Scheduling Conference preference. Confirmation of date and time forth coming. February 25 th -March 22 nd.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS 130 Credits over 4 years Minimum of 7 classes (35 credits) per year English - 20 credits (4 years) English - 20 credits (4 years) Social Studies – 15 credits (3 years) Mathematics – 15 credits (3 years) Science – 15 credits (3 years) World Language – 10 credits (2 years) P. E. & Health/Dr. Ed. - all years in school Visual/ Performing Art - 5 credits Career/Consumer/Life Skills – 5 credits Financial Literacy – 2.5 credits NJ HSPA (Junior Year)
