How is AVID different from what we have now?  A schoolwide approach to instruction and rigorous work that supports schoolwide/districtwide goals  A structured continuous improvement model planned and monitored by the AVID Site Team that is focused on data collection, analysis, and data driven decisions  Content area literacy materials that are aligned with national standards, focusing on writing, inquiry, collaboration and reading, to prepare all students for rigorous coursework  A student and parent support system throughout the college preparation and application process

12. AVID in Ohio In the 2010-2011 school year there will be:  4 school districts: South Euclid-Lyndhurst, Columbus, Berea City, Cleveland/University Heights  8 schools 7 Secondary 1 Elementary  Approximately 383 students

13. AVID in Ohio The 2010 data on the seven AVID secondary schools shows:  There are currently 23 AVID classes  54.9% of the overall population qualifies for Free/Reduced Lunch compared with 56.4% of the AVID cohort  Of the 6,799 students, 5.6% are enrolled in AVID

AVID in Ohio Of the 127 students at middle level:  52.7% are enrolled in algebra or higher level math  61.4% of AVID 8 th graders (2008-2009), completed an algebra or higher level math course with a ‘C’ or better  98.2% were recommended for enrollment for a college prep track upon entering 9 th grade

17. Standards and Assessments The AVID College Readiness System is designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges and succeed in postsecondary education and training. For 30 years, this simple formula has worked: Raise expectations of students and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge.

Effective Teachers and Principals AVID builds strong intentional leadership with a strong, multi-disciplinary site team:  Monthly site team meetings to reinforce the AVID training and develop the team’s leadership capacities.  Communities of practice among their teachers, who work together to plan instructional and academic support activities for their students.  AVID Site Visits to each school – Fall and Spring
