French The Conditional Tense This PowerPoint was created by Matthew Vernon, email here.here

What is the Conditional Tense? Time to learn the Conditional Tense. This is all about what you ‘would do’. I would eat dinner, but…, I would love to help you, but…’. It’s basically a must for making excuses. Now, before you continue, you must have learned the Past Imperfect and the Future Posh and you must know it 100%.

How do I do it? So, take your infinitive, like the future posh. jouer - to play Then you add the Past Imperfect endings that you learned a while ago. Look: -ais - Imperfect ‘je’ ending je jouer + ai je jouerais - I would play

Some examples je chanterais. I would sing. nous mangerions les légumes. vous aimeriez le film. ils liraient le livre. Easy as pie!

How to get around this… This is not the only way to do the conditional in French. You can do the ‘aurais’ conditional. You take the sentences to the right and add the past participle. FrançaisEnglish j’aurais +ppI would… tu auraisyou would… il auraithe would… nous aurionswe would… vous auriezyou would… ils aurientthey would…

Some examples j’aurais lu. I would read. je lirais. I would read. vous chanteriez. You would sing. vous auriez chanté…etc…

I hope that helped! Matthew Vernon thefartydoctor@hotmail.co.uk
