Quality & Quantity: what do current experiences of older people with HIV tell us for future generations living into older age? Results from the 50 Plus Study Lisa Power, Terrence Higgins Trust, UK

Key features 50Plus surveyed 410 older PWHIV (one in 25 in UK) Compared with their peers they: Report twice as many other long term medical conditions in addition to HIV Report greater mobility problems /difficulty with everyday tasks Are less economically active, less likely to have savings or a pension and more reliant on state benefits Are less likely to be homeowners, more likely to live in social or rented accommodation Have greater levels of depression and anxiety

Key service lessons HIV systematically disadvantages you across a lifetime Key areas are health, finance and social isolation People with HIV of all ages need: Employment support, money skills and welfare advice Healthy lifestyle advice to prevent co-morbidities Support to maintain/build social networks Support to maintain good mental health Support for older PLHIV to speak out and teach others
