UBELONG Grassroots action To improve the economic and social conditions of disadvantaged communities in the developing world by empowering volunteers to work on grassroots projects driven by locally identified needs. Experiences for all To mobilize people of all backgrounds and provide them with inspiring volunteering experiences that are affordable and flexible. Trip Overview 4 weeks, month of June 7-8 people chosen Selection based on application and interview Little or no linguistic barrier in South Africa South African team leader with us the entire time Will divide into smaller groups based on interest and choose a morning and afternoon project for the 4 weeks All group members will be staying together in a volunteer house *We are excited to be a part of this new project; however, as with any international experience, changes may occur that require participant flexibility.

Projects in Cape Town HIV/AIDS clinic: serve impoverished communities in townships; take vitals Clinic: share public health information to empower patients to become proactive about own health, organize workshops about nutrition, sexual education Caregiving: after-school center; help kids with English and homework, teach, play, demonstrate good health and hygiene habits, provide positive diversion Education: work with teachers to create lesson plans, lead classes, teach English, individualized attention to students Microenterprise: work on economic sustainability, grant writing, monitor progress of projects

7. Cultural Experiences Options include: Township visit: understand reality of day-to-day life in a shanty town, history of apartheid Drumming Workshop Castle of Good Hope South African food
