What is I Know I Can? College Access Program Founded in 1988 Contracted strictly with Columbus City School District Provides education, guidance and financial support on college admission, standardized tests, financial aid, career searching and other college related topics Mission Statement: to inspire, enable and support Columbus City School students in pursuing and completing a college education

What Does I Know I Can Provide? I Know I Can children’s book: given to every 2nd grader in the CCS district to inspire students to think about college Blueprint: College: a series of workshops that deliver relevant and in depth college readiness information to middle school and high school parents and students College Planning Folder: includes important information for 6th-12th graders to successfully prepare to enter college Presentations and Workshops: college planning presentations available for 6th-12th graders during the school day or at the IKIC office Summer Enrichment: summer program focused on helping CCS students prepare for college and taking the ACT ACT/SAT: IKIC will pay for one test during a student’s junior and senior years after you have used your fee waivers. IKIC will help with completing registration forms. Students are encouraged to start taking ACT/SAT in their junior year Application Fee Waivers: up to 3 college admission application fee waivers for all CCS seniors College Planning: IKIC College Advisor in every CCS high school available to help students prepare for college

What Does I Know I Can Provide? FAFSA Assistance: one-on-one assistance and evening workshops at every CCS high school to assist students and families in completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Founders Scholarship: Up to $10,000 competitive scholarship renewable for four (4) years awarded to CCS students I Know I Can Grant: Up to $1,200 toward college, renewable for four (4) years for qualified CCS graduates demonstrating financial need Resource Room: computer lab available for students to complete college searches, admissions and financial aid processes Retention: IKIC advisors on site at 15 Ohio college campuses to help students with their transition into college and to stay on track to graduate Save Smart Program: a post secondary Individual Development Account (IDA) savings incentive program in which eligible students save $500 and receive a $1,000 match in addition to the $1,200 IKIC grant

College Advising Individual counseling to develop a plan to pursue and secure a post-secondary education opportunity –All 6 th -12 th grade CCS students and CCS graduates currently enrolled in college –Advisors in every CCS middle and high school –Create goals and plans with students through Naviance: a comprehensive college & career readiness solution for middle and high school that helps connect academic to post-secondary goals –Navigation through terminology and college admission documents

College Funding FAFSA Workshops I Know I Can Grants –CCS seniors & graduates eligible to apply –GPA- 2.25 high school & 2.0 college –Pell grant eligible –First application within 1 year of HS graduation –Receive for 2 years for associates programs and up to 4 years for bachelor’s programs –Grants are awarded up to $1,200 per academic year

College Funding cont’d Save Smart –Individual Development Account (IDA) program that provides participants a matched grant up to $4 for every $1 that a participant saves –8 th, 9 th, 10 th, 11 th, 12 th grade CCS families and CCS grads who are current college students –Students have to qualify and receive the IKIC grant to be eligible Founders’ Scholarship –CCS seniors eligible to apply, GPA – 3.0 –Scholarships are up to $10,000 each year for 4 years –Special Founder’s from specific colleges –Application Checklist Application, Personal Statement, Essay, 3 Letters of Recommendation, Transcript, Interviews

Blueprint: College A series of FREE parent workshops designed to teach CCS families about the importance of starting college preparation and how each family can start now! 6 th -8 th grade CCS families Blueprint: College Middle School 9 th -11 th grade CCS families Blueprint: College High School Remove barriers: food, childcare, and transportation
