3 Drawback of the Present System
All Systems operating in silos No common viewpoint available Integrity and commonality of data No single source of truth / CoP No Interoperability between the different systems Holistic Assessment of expenditure, capabilities built and progress cannot be made available

6 Solution Solution is to have an Enterprise Wide Architecture (EWA).

7 Enterprise Wide Architecture (EWA)
What is EWA . EWA Presents a unified view of the IT infrastructure The purpose of EWA is to create a map of:- IT Assets Business Processes Governance principles

8 Basic Components of EWA
Business architecture: documentation that outlines the company's most important business processes. Information architecture: identifies where important blocks of information, such as a customer record, are kept and how one typically accesses them. Application system architecture: a map of the relationships of software applications to one another. The infrastructure technology architecture: a blueprint for the gamut of hardware, storage systems, and networks. The business architecture is the most difficult to build.

13 DoDAF Architecture Framework Ver 2.0
DoDAF Ver 2.0 serves as the overarching, comprehensive framework & conceptual model for enabling the development of archietectures to facilitate the ability of DoD Managers at all levels to make key decisions more effectively to through organised info sharing acorss the dept, Joint Capability Areas, Mission, Component and Program Boundaries. It is a comprehensive document. It incorporates viewpoints of all stakeholders. DoD & Jt CoS to decide Governance issues. Product of Clinger-Cohen Act 1996 prompted by Office of the Budget Management.

14 What are Viewpoints Viewpoints are organized by various views.
These views that act as mechanisms for visualizing, understanding, and assimilating the broad scope and complexities of an architecture description through tabular, structural, behavioural, ontological, pictorial, temporal, or graphical means. It is especially suited to large systems with complex integration and interoperability challenges.

15 Perspectives: Viewpoints That Fit-the-Purpose
Overarching aspects of architecture context that relate to all models All Viewpoint Articulate the data relationships and alignment structures in the architecture content Data and Information Viewpoint Articulate applicable Operational, Business, Technical, and Industry policy, standards, guidance, constraints, and forecasts Standards Viewpoint Systems Viewpoint Articulate the legacy systems or independent systems, their composition, interconnectivity, and context providing for, or supporting, DoD functions Services Viewpoint Articulate the performers, activities, services, and their exchanges providing for, or supporting, DoD functions Operational Viewpoint Articulate operational scenarios, processes, activities & requirements Capability Viewpoint Articulate the capability requirement, delivery timing, and deployed capability Describes the relationships between operational and capability requirements and the various projects being implemented; Details dependencies between capability management and the Defense Acquisition System process. Project Viewpoint Architectural viewpoints are composed of data that has been organized to facilitate understanding.
