Community Upgrading Activities Physical/Environmental/Economic aspects: development of area and community site plan; construction of public infrastructure: access road, water treatment, street lamp, community centre, children play ground, economic space; Model of poor riverside settlement and city river management reversal of houses to face the river; solid and liquid waste management; Biopori water catchment; community greening/open green social space; savings introduction of traditional and herbal medication system and techniques Socio-political aspects: ten-household grouping; upgrading team; inter-community organisation (PWSS) security of land tenure active participation of the urban poor in public decision making change for pro-poor city policy collaboration with and support from expert, media, university, others

Construction of liquid waste management facility Around 30% of the activities is finished, i.e., the low wall and the access road which is in preparation for paving. The rest is underway. The process is slow in this community due to some problem of trust among some of the leaders. conclusion Following its original concept, ACCA project in Indonesia has: sparked more community activities strengthened community organisation and cohesion enhanced community confidence for self help Challenge: The project is not yet city-wide
