4 Pasaportes

5 We will begin using pasaportes in class (the paper you picked up on the way in) Just like a pasaporte allows you into other countries, your pasaporte will take you to success in Spanish class Sr. Connolly will give you stamps at different points during class for completing different items (Homework and warm-up at the beginning, classwork during class)

6 Pasaportes Your pasaporte will also track your behavior. Every day, sr. Connolly will circle a number between 1 and 5 for your behavior grade. If you are in class, perfectly behaved, and don’t participate, you’ll get a 4 If you participate, you’ll get a 5 Misbehavior will lower your grade

7 Quiz results 85 % 1A: 72.6% 3A: 77.8% 4A: 83.5% 1B: 77.1% 2B: 84.4% 3B: 76.6%

8 QUIZ RESULTS IF YOU SCORED LESS THAN 70%, YOU ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO DO A QUIZ MAKE-UP TO IMPROVE YOUR GRADE REMEMBER, IF AS A CLASS WE GET OVER 85%, WE ARE ENTITLED TO A REWARD. THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY WILL BE ON THE UNIT 1 TEST IN A FEW WEEKS. IF YOU LIKE, SR. CONNOLLY CAN HOLD ONTO YOUR QUIZ FOR YOU SO YOU CAN STUDY FROM IT LATER. GIVE IT TO HIM WHEN LEAVING.

9 SeccÓn 2: Informal vs. Formal “You” Just like in English, in Spanish, we talk to people differently depending on how we know them For example, you call me Sr. Connolly or Mr. Connolly, you call your uncle “Uncle ___”, you call your friend’s parents Mr. Or Ms. ____. You wouldn’t use first names with these people! In Spanish, we have a different way of saying “You” for people we want to show respect to.

10 Formal “You” You use this “You” when talking to teachers, parents, older relatives, strangers, and anybody older than you or who you want to show respect to. usted

11 Informal “You” You use this “You” when talking to friends, brothers and sisters, people younger than you. If you would call them by their first name, you can usually use “TÚ” tú
