As for you ◦ Speak things fitting sound doctrine A command Older Men are to be ◦ Temperate—moderate ◦ Dignified—honorable ◦ Sensible—think so as to have sound judgment ◦ Sound in faith—trusting God in everything ◦ Sound in love—knowing it, giving it and sharing it ◦ Sound in perseverance—enduring hardship, disappointment, satisfied in perfect confidence

Older women are to be ◦ Reverent in their behavior—hieroprepes—godly examples of holiness ◦ Not malicious gossips—diabolos--slanderer ◦ Nor enslaved to much wine--drunkenness ◦ Teaching what is good Teaching role models to younger women—helping others cultivate good judgment and sensibilities Luke 2:37-38; 1 Tim. 2:9-11

Teaching what? ◦ Younger women to love their husbands ◦ To love their children--unconditionally ◦ To be sensible—good judgment ◦ Pure—1 Peter 3:3-6 ◦ Workers at home ◦ Kind—Eph. 4:32 ◦ Being subject (willingly) to their own husbands To what purpose? ◦ That the word of God may not be dishonored— suffer no scandal

Young Men need to be urged ◦ To be sensible—common sense, good judgment, self-control—self discipline ◦ 2 Tim. 2:22; 1 Peter 5:5; 1 Cor. 9:26-27 ◦ To be an example of—tupos Good deeds Purity in doctrine Dignified Sound in speech, beyond reproach For what purpose? ◦ Putting the opponent to shame, leaving no room—righteous living will silence the opponent
