Defined as the ability to learn, communicate and comprehend from various outlets. Technologies are common in most learning settings. ◦ Even low income schools are receiving technological donations. ◦ This is because technology is becoming an essential tool to building literacy. Teachers are using blogs, websites, etc. to communicate with students and teachers. The amount of money schools spend on technology has skyrocketed from years ago. Basic classroom settings may now include: ◦ Projector and screen ◦ SMART boards ◦ Multiple computers ◦ Multiple outlets for students’ laptops. ◦ Teacher ◦ Students ◦ Desks

New technology makes it easier for Teachers at any level to communicate with their students outside of class. Ex. Desire2Learn With the rise of literacy being taught with new technology via internet regulation over the internet is done by websites. Ex. TurnItIn.com There are also ways for teachers to teach their class without being in a set classroom, but teaching on an online atmosphere. Ex UniversalClass

Expands students’ literacy skills by giving them more opportunities to understand and communicate in new ways. Allows teachers to become more creative in their individual teaching styles. Engages and challenges students.

Huge added expense in a school’s budget ◦ technologies are evolving and becoming more advanced, school budgets are getting cut in many schools. Constant training for teachers Can be a distraction for students in a classroom Not all countries have access to technology and therefore cannot evolve their literacy in the same way.
