Apply two before reading strategies to the title of the poem and write them in the space provided. Turn the title into a purpose for reading! Who is sharing in the summertime? What is the problem with regards to sharing? I predict this poem is going to tell about two friends that share something important in the summer.

Name two during reading strategies you may want to use while reading a poem.

Use your senses when reading poetry! What do you visualize? What do you hear? What does it feel like? What do you smell? What are you feeling?

Read one time independently. On your student copy of the poem show proof of your before and during reading strategies.
