George Washington The First President of the United States of America Washington was the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolution. He led a group of soldiers against a far superior army to victory resulting in independence.

Thomas Jefferson Jefferson was the main writer of the Declaration of Independence The Louisiana Purchase was one of the largest land deals in history. In 1803, the United States paid approximately $15 million dollars for over 800,000 square miles of land. This land deal was arguably the greatest achievement of Thomas Jefferson's presidency

Benjamin Franklin Franklin was sent to France by the colonists in order to get the Treaty of Alliance. He convinced France to aid America in her fight against the British and added that if they won British power would be greatly decreased. Without this alliance the Colonists very well may have lost the war for independence.

Thomas Paine author of “Common Sense” a crusade for a superior political system and that America was ultimately unconquerable. He did as much as any writer could to encourage resistance and to inspire faith in the Continental Army "Crisis," Paine attacked the faint-hearted, campaigned for a more efficient federal and state tax system to meet the costs of war, and encouraged the belief that Britain would eventually recognize American independence

Marquis de Lafayette French nobleman who aided the colonies by procuring money, supplies, French troops Working with Franklin, Lafayette lobbied for additional troops and supplies. Granted 6,000 men under General Jean- Baptiste de Rochambeau, he returned to America in May 1781. Sent to Virginia by Washington, he conducted operations against the traitor Benedict Arnold.

John Adams A driving force for independence in 1776. Jefferson called him the "Colossus of Independence". He represented the Continental Congress in Europe. He was a major negotiator of the eventual peace treaty with Great Britain, and chiefly responsible for obtaining the loans from the Amsterdam money market necessary for the conduct of the Revolution.

Paul Revere Revere's political involvement arose through his connections with members of local organizations and his business patrons Revere gathered intelligence information by "watching the Movements of British Soldiers," as he wrote in an account of his ride He also spread the word of the Boston Tea Party to New York and Philadelphia His famous "Midnight Ride" occurred on the night of April 18/April 19, 1775, when he and William Dawes were instructed by Dr. Joseph Warren to ride from Boston to Lexington to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams of the movements of the British Army

James Madison The fourth president of the United States A delegate to the new Virginia convention, where he was on the committee which drafted the constitution for the state, and proposed an amendment which declared that "all men are equally entitled to the full and free exercise" of religion. Madison wrote the American Constitution, the Bill of Rights. Also, he helped Alexander Hamilton and John Jay coauthor the Federalist Papers. Had little part of the actual revolution

Who was the primary writer of the Declaration of Independence? A) George WashingtonGeorge Washington B) Benjamin FranklinBenjamin Franklin C) James MadisonJames Madison D) Thomas JeffersonThomas Jefferson
