NT Christians are priests offering spiritual sacrifices (1 Peter 2:5) Our service to God today is an “offering” (Rom. 15:16; Phil. 2:17; 2 Tim. 4:6; Heb. 13:15) Our service to God today is a “sacrifice” (Rom. 12:1; Phil. 4:18; Heb. 13:10,15-16; Rev. 5:8; 8:3; 6:9)
9
Sacrifice follows a divine pattern (2 Tim. 1:13) Sacrifice has a cost and a price to pay (Mal. 3:8) Sacrifice is giving the best to God (Mt. 6:33) Sacrifice is personal (Rom. 12:1-2) Sacrifice is a “sweet savor unto God,” a memorial (Phil. 4:18)
10
Sacrifice requires attention to detail (Col. 3:17) Sacrifice requires continuous work (Lev. 24:1-9; 1 Cor. 15:58) Sacrifice is a “gift” to God (Heb. 5:1; 8:3-4; 9:9) Sacrifice is serious and sacred (Lev. 17:1-9, 10- 16; Heb. 12:28-29)
11
Sacrifice is a “communion” with God and one another (1 Cor. 10:16-18; 11:18-34) Sacrifice must not be a mere ritual or routine motion, but a heart-felt obedience (1 Sam. 15:22; Psa. 61:16-17; Isa. 1:10-20; Mic. 6:6-8) Sacrifice is meant to show total commitment to God, full communion with God, and complete cleansing by God
