LIFE IS LIKE A CIGARETTE. SMOKE IT TO THE BUTT.
3
Life is like a cigarette. Smoke it to the butt. 2 Corinthians 4:1-5:21 13 It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, 14 because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence. 15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

Today’s RISK…
14
Risk and Reward 1.The Opportunity for Good Risk Genesis 22:1-14
15
Risk and Reward 1.The Opportunity for Good Risk Genesis 22:1-2 1 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. 2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.”
17
Risk and Reward 2. The Response of a Faithful Risk-taker Genesis 22:3 3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.
18
Risk and Reward 3. The Pain of Risk-taking Genesis 22:4 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.
19
Risk and Reward 4. Looking to Reward in the beginning of Risk Genesis 22:5-6a 5 He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” 6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife.

Risk and Reward 5. One of the most profound statements in the OT in the midst of HUGE RISK!!! Genesis 22:6b-8 As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?” “Yes, my son?” Abraham replied. “The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” 8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son. And the two of them went on together.
21
Risk and Reward 6. God is NEVER late, but seldom early!! Genesis 22:9-14 9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
22
Risk and Reward 6. God is NEVER late, but seldom early!! Genesis 22:9-14 11 But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. 12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”
23
Risk and Reward 6. God is NEVER late, but seldom early!! Genesis 22:9-14 13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”
24
Risk and Reward Reward #1 - Abraham is blessed of God!!! Genesis 22:15-19 15 The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time 16 and said, “I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.” 19 Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.

Risk and Reward Reward #2 - The site becomes the CENTER of Jewish Life 2 Chronicles 3:1 1 Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah…
26
Risk and Reward Reward #3 - Abraham becomes a PILLAR of what it means to trust God CENTURIES later Hebrews 11:17-19 17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” 19 Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.
27
Risk and Reward Reward #4 - The sacrafice of Isaac becomes a “type” or a foreshadowing of the sacrafice of Jesus Christ John 3:14-16, 12:12-13, 19:16-18 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. 16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Risk and Reward Reward #4 - The sacrafice of Isaac becomes a “type” or a foreshadowing of the sacrafice of Jesus Christ John 3:14-16, 12:12-13, 19:16-18 12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the King of Israel!”

Risk and Reward Reward #4 - The sacrafice of Isaac becomes a “type” or a foreshadowing of the sacrafice of Jesus Christ John 3:14-16, 12:12-13, 19:16-18 16 Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 17 Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 18 Here they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.
