2 Infinitive: a verb in it’s original form. (to be) In English these start with “to”. In French, they end in “-er”, “-ir”, or “-re”. Conjugation: When you conjugate the verb, you change the verb to make it fit the subject. I am (from the verb “to be” but conjugated).

5  Tu is used for one person who is familiar to you.  Vous is used for one formal person or more than one person.

6  Est-ce que + a sentence?  Example:  Est-ce que Pierre est ici? (Is Pierre here?)  Est-ce qu’ + sentence starting with a vowel?  Example:  Est-ce qu’il est en ville? (Is he in town?)

7  Sentence + n’est-ce pas?  Example: Tu es américain, n’est-ce pas? (You are American, aren’t you?)

9  To make a sentence negative, you have to follow the formula below:  Subject + ne + verb + pas + the rest  Example:  Eric et Anne ne sont pas là. (Eric and Anne are not there.)

10  Subject + n’ + verb beginning with a vowel + pas + the rest  Example:  Michèle n’est pas avec moi. (Michele is not with me.)
