OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE IN VIETNAM In Vietnam, there are 21 diseases having insurance: -1 st group: Pulmonary and bronchial diseases (caused by dust exposure): 1. Silicosis 2. Asbestosis 3. Byssinosis 4. Chronic bronchitis

- 2 nd group: Occupational poisoning diseases (caused by chemicals exposure): 1. Lead and its compounds poisoning disease 2. Benzene and its compounds poisoning disease 3. Mercury and its compounds poisoning disease 4. Manganese and its compounds poisoning disease 5. Trinitrotoluene (TNT) poisoning disease 6. Arsenic and its compounds poisoning disease 7. Nicotine poisoning disease 8. Pesticides poisoning disease

3 rd group: OD by physical factors exposure: 1. Radiation disease 2. Noise induced hearing loss (Occupational deafness) 3. Occupational vibration 4. Occupational chronic decompression 4 th group: Occupational dermatitis by chemicals exposure 5. Occupational melanosis 6. Occupational skin disease caused by chromium and its compound: dermal ulcers, nose partition ulcers, dermatitis, contact eczema

- 5 th group: Occupational bacterial contamination diseases by pathogenic microorganisms 1. Occupational tuberculosis 2. Occupational viral hepatitis 3. Occupational leptospirosis

1.1. Occupational disease monitoring data in 2004 Among the confirmed OD, the followed diseases have the highest percentage: -Silicosis – 67.5%, - Noise induced hearing loss-16.6%, - Byssinosis -7.03% and - Melanosis – 3.9%.

Silicosis: - In Vietnam, silicosis is recognized as occupational disease for compensation since 1976. - The number of workers having high risk of silicosis is very high. - 1998: “National Action Plan on silicosis prevention and control” having the objective to reduce the incidence silicosis until year 2010 and to eliminate it thought out the country until year 2030.
