14. A big shift in modern theology related to sin is a move from viewing sin as primarily against God (criminal) to viewing sin as primarily against each other (civil). This can mean that as long as we don’t hurt others, God will justify however we choose to live. Our primary lens related to sin is then justice and “the other” rather than righteousness before God. This can make sin man centered rather than God centered, and weaken our passion for holiness. David however knew the true nature of sin when he cried, “Against you only have I sinned,” even though there was much sin against others.
