It kills 50% of its users. About 20% of every smoker, children smoked their first whole cigarette before the age of 10 in South East Asia (SEA) region. 80%of the current smokers started smoking before they turned 18. Every day 80,000 to100,000 young people worldwide become addicted to tobacco. If this pattern continues,a lifetime of tobacco use will result in the death of 250 million children and young people alive today.

POISONOUS INGREDIENTS IN TOBACCO Q. What are the toxic constituents in tobacco? Ans: Nicotine (addictive substance), carcinogens (cancer producing chemicals) Processed tobacco contains at least 2,500 chemicals. Tobacco smoke has more than 4,000 toxic chemicals including 43 known carcinogens.
4
TOXIC CONSTITUENTS NICOTINE Addictive substance It raises heart rate and blood pressure. Narrows blood vessels, thereby making heart work harder and reduce blood flow to body’s organ Nicotine is poisonous in concentrated amount but still Nicotine is used. (any guess, why?) Ans : as indeed to make poison, it is found in insecticides and pesticides.
5
CARBON MONOXIDE Highly poisonous gas that is emitted from burnt tobacco. It reduces O 2- carrying capacity of RBC, thereby reducing the supply of oxygen to important organs. Thus makes heart beat faster. Another source of carbon monoxide is automobile exhaust.
6
TAR Tobacco tar is a resin like condensate of smoke arising from burnt tobacco. Smoking deposits tar from burnt tobacco. USES The sticky black substance is often used for building roads.

OTHER POSIONS IN TOBACCO AND TOBACCO SMOKE ARSENIC-also found in white ant poison. ACETONE-found in paint and nail polish remover AMMONIA-found in floor cleaner. DDT (Dichlorodiphenyl trichloroethane)- insecticides. BUTANE- found in gas lighter fuel. PHENOL-found in paints. HYDROGEN CYANIDE- gas chamber. RADIO ACTIVE COMPOUNDS-nuclear weapons.
