The Great Exhibition was built and designed in 1851 by Joseph Paxton; an architect. It was built in Hyde park, but was moved in 1854 to Penge Common [which no longer exists]. When it (known as the Crystal Palace) got burnt down at Penge Common it was never built again. Crystal Palace, the football team, uses the park as its home ground this is where they founded their name.
