3 What you need: apples, sticky notes, pens, a board, markers, the text “The smell of apples”

4 Activities before reading 1) A teacher shows an apple and asks a question: What is the first idea that comes to your mind when you see an apple? The learners write their opinions on the sticky notes and attach to the board.

6 Activities before reading 2) A teacher gives an apple to each learner and asks to describe it. Which adjectives fit to their apples? The learners write their opinions on the sticky notes and attach to the board.

10 While-Reading Activities 1)The learners read the text “The smell of apples”. Questions: What do you think about that narrative? Is it positive or negative? Which words and sentences in the text define nostalgia?

11 While-Reading Activities 2) The learners read the text twice and notice the adjectives about the apples and their smell written in text. Questions: Are they similar to your adjectives, or different? Are they positive or negative?

12 Activities after reading The learners write an essay “The bitter-sweet taste of childhood”.

13 Further suggestions discussion about the world of smells: what do the learners like? What don’t they like? discussion or essay “The smell of apples is painful” Why?
