Why Do We Assemble With The Saints? As we look at all these positive examples, just consider the negative impact by failing to assemble with the saints.
2
Introduction We are going to look at some reasons why we should assemble. There are many reasons. The excuses used by many who do not assemble are wasted energy and will not bode well when Christ comes again. These reasons are:
3
I Love The Lord Matthew 18:20 “ For where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst” 1 John 3:16 “We know love by this, that he laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren”
4
I Want To Set A Good Example Ephesians 6:4 “ And, fathers do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord”. Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven”. 1 Thessalonians 1:7 “so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia”. 2 Thessalonians 3:7 “for you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you,”
5
I Want A Good Conscience 1 John 3:20-22 “We shall know by this that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before Him, in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight”.
6
I Do Not Want To Backslide 2 Peter 2:20-22 “For if after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. It has happened to them according to the true proverb, a dog returns to its own vomit, and a sow, after washing returns to wallowing in the more”.
7
I Love To Be With My Brethren 1 John 4:11 “Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another”. Romans 1:9-13 “For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you, always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at the last by the will of God I may succeed in coming to you. For I long to see you in order that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established; that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other’s faith, both yours and mine”.
8
I Do Not Want To Rob God Malachi 3:8 -9 “Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, how have we robbed Thee? In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, the whole nation of you!” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 “Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver”.
9
I Am Needed Hebrews 10:23-25 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more, as you see the day drawing near”.
10
I Need To Satisfy My Spiritual Appetite Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied”. 1 Peter 2:1-2 “Therefore, putting aside all malice and all guile and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babes, long for the pure milk of the word, that by it you may grown in respect to salvation,” 2 Corinthians 4:16 “Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day”.
11
I Need To Grow Ephesians 4;15-16 “but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love”. 2 Peter 3:18 “but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen”.
12
I Do Not Want To Disobey God 1 John 2:3-6 “And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him’, and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked”.
13
Conclusion We need to gather together to worship God. And always worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24). We say a lot by our actions. Do you love God? Is there any evidence to support your claim? What does your attendance (and participation) say about you? Isn’t it time to make things right with God?
