5. The Law on lotteries There are two important issues for charities and organisations who are fundraising by lottery: The person managing the lottery must be a member or employee of the society/charity who the lottery is for. The person promoting the lottery must have written authorisation from the society/charity to act as the promoter. Lotteries and Amusement Act 1976

6. Four General Principles a) A legal principle underpinning fundraising is that all funds raised for a particular cause MUST be used for that particular cause. b) Fundraisers OUGHT NOT to denigrate other individuals or organisations. c) Organisations OUGHT NOT to exaggerate facts relating to the potential beneficiary. d) Organisations OUGHT NOT to take advantage of mistakes made by the donor.
