5 The Law on lotteries There are two important issues for charities and organisations who are fundraising by lottery: The person managing the lottery must be a member or employee of the society/charity who the lottery is for. The person promoting the lottery must have written authorisation from the society/charity to act as the promoter. Lotteries and Amusement Act 1976

6 Four General Principles a) A legal principle underpinning fundraising is that all funds raised for a particular cause MUST be used for that particular cause. b) Fundraisers OUGHT NOT to denigrate other individuals or organisations. c) Organisations OUGHT NOT to exaggerate facts relating to the potential beneficiary. d) Organisations OUGHT NOT to take advantage of mistakes made by the donor.

Your local volunteer centre Advertise on do-it.org Give a short presentation at your local college/uni/school Hold a stall at a careers event at college/uni/school Ask your local community centre or community association to put a listing in their newsletter Advertise on social media Put posters and flyers in local public places Flyer drop
