In Třebíč St. Procopius Basilica

St. Procopius Basilica is an example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture. It was built approximately between 1240 and 1280. Basilica became a national cultural monument in 2002 together with Jewish neighbourhood. It was included on UNESCO World Heritage list a year later. Originally there was only St. Benedict chapel, which was built in 1104. Introduction

Division - St. Procopius basilica is three - aisled - there are two towers in the west front - the nave is wide, the ceiling is vaulted, there are 6 vault fields, side aisles have nine vault fields - tracery vault origins in baroque age and was designed by František Maxmilian Kaňka, because the original vault was damaged in 1468

Abbot´s chapel - both side aisles used to be finished by chaples in the East part - only abbot´s chapel was preserved and serves as sacristy till today

Narthex - is an entrance columned space with ribbed vault - you can get into the basilica by Romanesque entrance portal, which is called Paradise Gate

Crypt - can be found under the choir of the nave - Special Gothic cross vault was made of timber, which is placed between the stony ribs - The place has a special athmosphere
