1 MICRONESIA & THE PHILIPPINES AMBER Thursday 2 nd March 2015 TYPHOON MAYSAK IMPACT ASSESSMENT OFFICIAL This assessment is based on the assessment made by the UN/EC Global Disaster Alert and Co- ordination System (GDACS) in association with OCHA and the Met Office Global Guidance Unit.

2 W Pacific TC MAYSAK - SATELLITE Headline Summary Typhoon Maysak is expected to make landfall on the eastern coast of central Luzon (Philippines) late Saturday/early Sunday. It is expected to weaken to a Category 1 storm before making landfall. Maximum significant wave height at 020600Z is 40 FT. Population expected to be affected by Cat 1 (65 KT) or higher is 2.2 million. Extensive damage caused on Micronesian Islands (9 or more deaths). 3 W Pacific IMPACT ASSESSMENT Typhoon MAYSAK is expected to have a MEDIUM humanitarian Impact. Population affected by category 1 (65 KT) wind speeds or higher – 2.2 million people (GDACS). YELLOW/AMBER impact expected for the Philippines. Main risk from flooding, especially in coastal areas of eastern Luzon. Maximum significant wave height at 020600Z was 40 FT in open water. Maysak (a Category 5 Super Typhoon at the time) caused at least 9 deaths and serious damage to infrastructure, houses, soil and crops in the state of Chuuk (Micronesia). Overall, models are in agreement, giving high confidence in the JTWC track (right).
