3 We are going to travel to the rainforest to try and find the Atlanta Zoo two new animals. We must learn about these two animals and share the information with the Atlanta Zoo. They are counting on you!!!!!!! They need to know how to care for these animals.

4 Content area: Science Grade: 2nd Language Arts Standards ELA2W1. The student demonstrates competency in the writing process. Science Standards S2CS1. Students will be aware of the importance of curiosity, honesty, openness, and skepticism in science and will exhibit these traits in their own efforts to understand how the world works. S2CS5. Students will communicate scientific ideas and activities clearly. S2CS6. Students will be familiar with the character of scientific knowledge and how it is achieved. S2L1. Students will investigate the life cycles of different living organisms.

5 Introduction Welcome second graders your journey is about to begin. You are about to travel to one of the most mysterious places in the world. You are about to meet some of the rarest animals in the world. You are about to enter the rainforest.

6 Task You are about to embark on a journey that will require you to travel deep into the rain forests. Your journey will take you to places few have imagined. Only the strongest will survive. You have been selected to research the animals of the rainforest. The Atlanta Zoo is looking for two new animals to add to their zoo. You must find out what these animals need to survive. The rainforest is a very scary and dangerous place. We will not let you travel alone. You will be traveling with a partner. Stick together and be safe. We look forward to your safe return! 7 You and your partner must choose 2 animals to study on your journey to the rainforest. Study them closely, but don’t get too close. They are very dangerous. I have provided websites that can help you learn about your animals. 1. You and your partner must decide between two jobs. The Animal Scientist- One of you must study and record what the animals eat, what the animals look like, and how the animals move.The Animal Scientist- The Habitat Scientist- The other person must study theThe Habitat Scientist- habitat of the animals, what animals hunt them, and how they protect themselves. When you study the animals habitats find out which part of the rainforest they live in. 2.You need to write this information on the information sheet provided. Click on your job above to print your worksheet. 3.You and your partner need to take the information you’ve gathered and compare the two animals using the Venn Diagram. You need to convince the committee that your two animals are the best choice to bring to Atlanta. 5.If you need any help please ask your teacher or other students in the class.

10 Well you’ve done it! You and your partner have successfully returned safely home from the rainforest. I hope you’ve learned a lot about the animals and the rainforests many wonders.
