Some are women trying to achieve economic parity with men. The Department of Labor is committed to expanding opportunities for all American workers. Women comprise 10% of overall veteran population Among the civilian workforce, women comprise 13% of veterans Women comprise 20% of Gulf War II veterans Less than 2% of women in the U.S. are veterans

7 Free Local Employment Assistance  Determination of eligibility for other services  Outreach, intake and orientation  Initial assessment of skills, abilities, aptitudes and service needs  Job search and placement assistance  Provision of workforce information  Job placement follow-up  Comprehensive and specialized assessments of skills and service needs  Development of individual employment plans  Employment counseling and career planning  Case management  Prevocational or pre-training short-term skill development services  Occupational skills training  Skill upgrading and retraining  On-the-job training  Workplace training combined with related instruction  Entrepreneurial training  Job readiness training  Adult education and literacy Intensive ServicesCore ServicesTraining Services Veterans receive priority of service at all Department of Labor employment and job-training programs, including American Job Centers (AJCs) Post-9/11 Era Veterans are eligible to receive Gold Card services (6 months) www.servicelocator.org

10 Reintegration Services for Veterans Experiencing Homelessness Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) Women Veteran Program  Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) Provides job training, counseling, and placement services to expedite the reintegration of homeless veterans into the labor force  Homeless Female Veterans and Veterans with Families Program (HFVVWF) Provides supportive services to eligible homeless female veterans and homeless veterans with families  Incarcerated Veterans Transition Program (IVTP) Provides supportive services to eligible incarcerated veterans who are “at risk” of becoming homeless  Stand-Down Grants Numerous free services like health and dental checkups, benefits counseling, employment services, and housing referrals to homeless veterans all in one place at one time.

12 Protection of Employment Rights Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) Women Veteran Program Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) VETS enforces U.S. veterans’ re-employment rights to return to civilian employment once tour of duty concludes USERRA Advisor assists veterans in understanding employee eligibility and job entitlements, employer obligations, benefits and remedies under USERRA. http://www.dol.gov/elaws/userra.htm Veteran’s Preference in Federal Employment Veterans’ Preference Advisor allows veterans to examine the preferences for which they might be entitled with regard to federal jobs. http://www.dol.gov/elaws/vetspref.htm
