BRTS Cities-Day 1 Seoul – considerable shift of mode choice, strong leadership, well built implementation strategy and quality control Rajkot – changes in land value and land use along BRT corridor, increase in FSI Guayaquil – Most functions of BRTS service in Guayaquil like operations, maintenance, scheduling, fare collections and ITS equipment outsourced to private enterprises Surat – Big vision consistent with global standards, strong political and financial commitment, TOD and BRTS as catalyst for urban development Jakarta – Performance – ridership increase from 16 million 2004 to 115 million 2011, Technology features ; Operational challenges – limited CNG supply, Insufficient Fleet supply

BRTS Cities- Day 1 New Delhi – Big challenge is decision making – Issues: Inadequate midblock crossings, Obstacles in footpath and cycle track Hubli-Dharwad – Saving in commuter time, accident reduction, savings due to reduction in carbon emissions, high capacity system Ahmedabad – Creating network and not corridors; Connecting important destinations and origins, expanding network, last mile connectivity

Expert Discussions Day 2 BRTS Integration – Physical, fare and institutional integration key lessons learnt from Singapore Planning & Design of BRTS – Operations planning critical; data needs to be generated – Branding and communication needs to be upscaled – Safety in bus operations critical Institutions and financing options for BRTS – Funds abundantly available, need for authorities to be ‘greedy’ and resourceful Bus Technology & Innovations – Need for common standards for different types of buses discussed

BRTS Cities- Day 2 Lagos BRT System – Capacity development of informal sector; Avg. journey time reduced to 55 minutes from 70 minutes Indore – Challenges: Estimated funding less then actual, lack of strategic partner – Higher densities along BRT corridor and land value capture working well Cebu – Planning: Median station design with overtaking bypass lanes at stations – Smart design solutions such as asymmetrical bus station designs adopted to tackle land acquisition issues

BRTS Cities- Day 2 Vadodara – Importance of inner city transit, exploring innovative solutions to have city wide coverage, overall urban development Pimpri-Chinchwad – Think railway station and use bus stations, strong integration with suburban rail – Operations to begin in June 2013 Lahore – BRTS as medium term strategy for mobility issues, political and financial support critical – Closed system – Communication strategy critical to reach out to stakeholders
