Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk ONE TO ONE TUITION HOW DO WE MANAGE IT IN SCHOOL?

Supply teachers? Agency staff? Decide where and when tuition will take place - in school? at home? (Education VIP’s do this) during school day? before school? after school?

www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Contact choice of tutor Contact parent/guardian and discuss tuition with them and pupil (all parties must be in agreement or the tuition will not work) Set up meeting with tutor and class teacher At this meeting, needs will be identified with reference to APP criteria and Individual Tuition Plan drawn up with reference to Teacher Assessment (APP criteria), times and frequency of sessions agreed. Class teacher can also be paid out of Participation Allowance or given time in lieu. Communication is via the “Passport to Success” record card

www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Payment Tutors get paid for 12 hours per pupil – 10 hours of face to face work, 2 hours to cover meeting with teacher and time for planning If teacher already on school staff, Head Teacher sends “New Starter” form into Schools HR. This must be done as this is technically a new post. (Needs to be marked “Making Good ProgressTutor” and pay is £26.00 per hour) If school staff, hours worked need to be entered on monthly staff overtime sheet – sent electronically from payroll. School based teachers will have a separate “Tutor Post” line on which to enter number of hours worked. Payment will be on normal monthly pay slip but as a separate post payment. £26.00 pay is the £32 allowed by DCSF less employer’s oncosts (National Insurance, pension contributions) The remaining amount is still liable for tax.

www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk  If you are employing a known teacher as a supply teacher please make sure you clearly mark the form “Making Good Progress Tutor” and put pay rate as £26.00 per hour. (Otherwise the pay is at a different rate). Tutors then complete and sign time sheets in the normal way and they are sent in to TOPS – again, please cross out “Supply Teacher” and mark as “Making Good Progress Tutor” to avoid any confusion with payroll. If tutor from an external agency, they will deal with pay – school just signs time sheets in the normal way Once you have used a teacher from school staff or a supply teacher, they become an employed tutor for your school (or supply tutor) and so can tutor any number of pupils at any school

www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk Listening to you, working for you www.bexley.gov.uk School receives £348 per pupil for tuition payment (12 hours @ £32 per hour gross PLUS £23 per pupil management allowance NB It is vital that you let me know names etc, of all pupils to be tutored as they arise, on the Tuition Proforma so that I can arrange for tuition funding to be devolved to your budget to enable payment. I also need to keep a strict record of pupils for my monitoring purposes. Thank you for your help.
