What is T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® MICHIGAN? National, Comprehensive Scholarship Initiative that: – Recognizes the Challenges of the Workforce – Provides Support for the Working Student – Links Educational Accomplishments with Compensation Incentives Began July 1, 2001 Funded by Office of Great Start/Michigan Dept. of Education Administered by the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children (MiAEYC)

Eligibility Requirements Must be working a minimum of 20 hours per week. As a teacher/teacher’s assistant make $14.25 or less per hour. As a director/owner make $15.00 or less per hour. Bachelor degree scholarship requires FAFSA application and credit articulation.

How do I apply for a Scholarship? Contact T.E.A.C.H. Michigan @ (866) 648- 3224 X312 for pre-screening and to obtain an application Fill out and submit an application along with all required documentation Apply to the school you wish to attend

Responsibilities of T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship Program Contribute 80% for the cost of tuition and books Issue a travel stipend of $50 for every semester/term on scholarship Reimburse sponsor a portion of paid release time given to recipients Give a bonus to student at the end of each completed contract

Responsibilities of Recipients Contribute 10% of the cost of tuition and books Submit grades to scholarship program Complete a minimum of 9 credits per contract (year) Stay with sponsoring facility one year at the end of the contract Responsibilities of Sponsors Contribute 10% of the cost of tuition and books Give paid release time to eligible recipients (working 30 or more hours per week) Give a bonus or raise to student at the end of each completed contract

Associate Degree, - MICHIGAN Community College Example ScholarshipCompensation 80 % Tuition $300 Bonus Paid by 80 % Books T.E.A.C.H. $50 Per Semester Travel Stipend 2% Raise or $375 bonus paid by sponsoring program. Maximum of 6 Hrs. Paid Release Time/Week (50% Time Reimbursed at $10/Hr.) EducationCommitment 9 credits minimum One year in sponsoring toward a degree in ECE Child Care

Associate degree example *based on average figures Average cost for 6 credits tuition and fees= $799 Average cost of books for 2 classes= $100 T.E.A.C.H. will cover 80% or $719 Sponsor will be responsible for 10%: – $89.90 (Tuition/fees/books) – 50% of release time for up to 6 hours per week (if eligible) Recipient will be responsible for 10% or $89.90

Associate Degree for Center Option 3 - MICHIGAN ScholarshipCompensation 50 % Tuition $675 Bonus Paid by 50 % Books T.E.A.C.H. $50 Per Semester Travel Stipend Maximum of 6 Hrs. Paid Release Time/Week (50% Time Reimbursed at $10/Hr.) EducationCommitment 9 credits minimum One year in sponsoring Child Care

Option 3 Example* *based on average figures Average cost for 6 credits tuition and fees= $799 Average cost of books for 2 classes= $100 T.E.A.C.H. will cover $449.50 Sponsor will be responsible for: – $359.6 (40% of tuition/fees/books) – 50% of release time for up to 6 hours per week Recipient will be responsible for $89.90 NO bonus/raise requirement from the sponsor (paid by T.E.A.C.H.)

Part-Time Associate Degree - MICHIGAN ScholarshipCompensation 80 % Tuition $150 Bonus Paid by 80 % Books T.E.A.C.H. $50 Per Semester Travel Stipend $100 paid by Sponsoring Program EducationCommitment 9 Semester hours minimum One year in Sponsoring toward an AA or AAS in ECE Child Care Program

Building Foundations - MICHIGAN ScholarshipCompensation 80 % Tuition $100 paid by T.E.A.C.H. 80 % Books after commitment is $50 Per Semester Travel Stipend fulfilled EducationCommitment Approved 3 or 4 credit course 6 months to Sponsoring at a participating community college/ Child Care or home program university

CDA Assessment- MICHIGAN ScholarshipCompensation 85 % of Assessment Fee $300 Bonus or $200 Bonus from T.E.A.C.H. EducationCommitment Completion of 120 clock hours of One year in Sponsoring ECE training required by Council Child Care Program or One year in the field (minimum 6 months with Sponsoring Program)
