It means near 350 million Indians cannot read or write. 82 children out of 1000 children are forced for hazardous labor due to poverty and family debts. There are 5 lakh formal schools for a population of 2390 laks; 14% have no school building; 38% have no blackboards; 30% have only one teacher for the whole school; 58% have no drinking water. The result, 4 out of 5 children do not even enter a school and 70% of children drop out before they enter Class IV. Every year we are adding 20 million people in our system.
