Pass the Naturalization Test a) English skills (read, write & speak) b) Civics knowledge (U.S. govt. & history) 3. Legal Permanent Resident for 5 years (or 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen) 1. Good moral character 2. Pay income taxes 3. Register/sign-up for Selective Service System of U.S. armed forces (only males from 18-26 yrs. old) 4. Maintain continuous residence in the U.S. 5. Maintain physical presence in the U.S. 1. Lack of good moral character: (examples) lying to govt., continually drunk, prostitution 2. Convicted of certain serious crimes 3.
