 Objectives:  Create awareness of Policies and Procedures  Improve communication between Parents, Players, Coaches and Administrators  Allow Parents/Athletes a time to ask questions

 Academic and Athletic Success  Policy: If a Student-Athlete is late/absent from school they may not participate in practices or games A note from a doctor, NOT a parent is needed to participate that day  Extenuating Circumstances Communication is KEY!

 If a Student-Athlete fails ONE course at the Interim or 10-week marking period, he/she may continue to participate on their team.  If a Student-Athlete fails TWO or more courses at the Interim or 10-week marking period, he/she is considered ineligible until the next marking period.

 Every Student-Athlete needs a current physical to participate in Athletics  If a physical is current at the beginning of a season, the Student-Athlete is eligible for THAT sports season  Physicals are good for ONE YEAR

 Players must ride the bus to away games.  A parent may sign out their son/daughter with the coach after an away game to ride home with them.  Student-Athletes may NOT ride home with another child’s parent or bring in a note that states they have permission to ride with someone else.

 Modified Everyone plays, every game  JV Best athletes play the majority of the time, but opportunities to play are still there for everyone  Varsity Best athletes play the majority of the time  All playing time is based on the coaches discretion

 A Student-Athlete/parent has a concern about playing time…  Who can I talk to???  #1 – Coach  #2 – Athletic Director  #3 – HS Principal  #4 – Superintendent  #5 – Board of Education

 Things to consider: Don’t approach a coach after a game in anger. Ask the coach, or call the next day, if there is a time when you can talk with him/her. Encourage your child to talk with the coach first. Always remember we are all here because we want what is best for KIDS!

 Yelling at an official will NOT cause them to become a better official.  It sets a bad example for the players and ultimately creates a disadvantage for our kids/teams.

 Social Media plays a HUGE role in the lives of Student-Athletes and their parents.  It can be a very useful tool for spreading and gathering information.

 However...  Keep all posts POSITIVE Tweet about a win! Post a pic of your teammate scoring a goal! Send a proud message to your child. If you don’t have anything nice to say…  Put the phone down!! If you are angry, frustrated or need to vent. Angry/rude postings by anyone, only ends up hurting our kids.

 Refer to Student Handbook Refer to Student Handbook

 My child suffered a concussion during an athletic activity…what happens next?  Return to play Protocol (RTP) established by NYSPHSAA Return to play Protocol (RTP) established by NYSPHSAA  School doctor (Castellanos) must sign off on final RTP checklist

 Student-Athletes are encouraged to prioritize their involvement in Non- School sponsored athletics  All of our coaches try to make sure athletes know that school sports come before non-school sports  If an athlete gets injured in a non-school sport, they are encouraged to let their school coach know ASAP.
