The integumentary system is an organ system consisting of your skin, hair, nails, and endocrine glands. Your skin is only a few millimeters thick, but is the largest organ in the body.
3
The integumentary system is consisted of mostly the skin. The skin functions include protection against illness and disease, excreting (getting rid of) sweat and oil, and regulating your body temperature.
4
The dust that collects on your tables, TVs, and windowsills is made mostly from dead human skin cells. In other words, your house is filled with former bits of yourself. In one year, you'll shed more than 8 pounds (3.6 kilograms) of dead skin. (Also, bed bugs exist only to eat your dead skin.)
5
The integumentary system has 2 different glands. 1. Sudoriferous (sweat) gland- eliminates water, salts, and some wastes through perspiration. 2. Sebaceous (oil) gland- it produces sebum (oil), which keeps your hair from getting dry and brittle.
7
The skin is the largest organ in your body. The most basic functions of the skin involve absorbing UV rays from the sun, aka getting tan, absorbing vitamin D while in the process, and it also eliminates wastes through sweat.
8
Acne vulgaris, commonly known as acne, is classified as a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin. It is the most common disorder in the United States.
9
Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin. It gets its name because it appears as red rings on the skin. The centers are white and may appear to be blisters.
10
Athlete's foot, also known as ringworm of the foot, is a common and contagious fungal infection of the skin that causes scaling, flaking, and itching of the affected areas.
