2. Description The United States has just purchased the Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million. This huge new addition stretches north from the Mississippi to the Rocky Mountains and doubles the size of the United States. President Thomas Jefferson has decided to send an expedition to map this region, meet with the numerous Indian tribes living there, examine the animals and plants, and find a route to the Pacific Ocean.
