1 Grammar for “Mighty Jackie”

2  Day 1: When I got to school this morning I was really tired. Last night a noise woke me up, after I had gone to sleep.  Day 2: A girl named Lily sat in the bleachers next to me, do you know her. She is tall, but she is not taller than jack.

3  A noun is a word that names a person, a place, or a thing.  A common noun names any person, place, or thing: sister, museum, house  A proper noun is the name or title of a specific person, place, or thing: Aunt Ida, House of Representatives

4  Proper nouns always begin with capital letters. If a proper noun has more than one word, each important word begins with a capital letter.  Example: New York, Mississippi River, United States of America, Babe Ruth, Louisville Slugger

7  Common nouns can name people: girl, man, and doctor.  Proper nouns can name people: Jessica, Dallas, and Sarah.  Common nouns can name places: state, city, and park.  Proper nouns can name places: West Virginia, Princeton, and Glenwood Park.

8  Words such as day, month, and holiday are common nouns.  Words such as Monday, June, and Labor Day are proper nouns.

9  My brother paul likes baseball.  aunt edwina once pitched at yankee stadium.  shelby tried out for the marlins, a local Team.  On halloween, tom dressed up as a giant Pumpkin.

10  In may, the giants will play a game here in crossville.  My uncle bill was a professional baseball player.  My sister plays for the st. louis cardinals.

12  Each word in a proper noun should be capitalized.  Capitalize proper nouns that name specific people: Natalie, Senator Lewis, and Ms. Garcia.  Capitalize proper nouns that name specific places: California, Miami, and Central Avenue.  Capitalize proper nouns that name specific days and months: Friday, March, and Christmas.

13  Everyone in the Crowd cheered as zambrano walked to the plate.  “If I just concentrate,” SHE said to herself, “I can strike jackson out.”  The class went to the Game with mr. johnson.  My Cousin maria has played Baseball since she was a young girl.  Karl larger plays all the positions in the Infield.

15  My favorite Holiday is easter.  My favorite baseball Player is babe Ruth.  Does canada have baseball.  july was the Month we played the most games this Year.

16  The shef worked in the kichen.  she skeched a Picture of the brantch.  Our school’s martching band streched before the game.  Who put kechip on my choped vegetables.

17 On Monday, local tryouts begin. My little sister is determined to play for the Redbirds. I play for the Cardinals. Paul used to play for the Cardinals, but now he is too old to play for the Washington little League. We begin our season on Memorial Day.

18  Watch aunt elsie throw the Pitch.  On labor day, the two Teams will play a game in the morning.  One of the first African American Players was jackie robinson.  In the Winter, the Fields in town are all closed.  The Pitcher wasn’t scared of the great Hitters.

19  Day 5: Next week is thanksgiving don’t you love the Holidays. When we have four days off we can play so mutch baseball.
