pineal gland The pineal gland is an endocrine organ formed by cells with a neurosecretory function. The pineal gland is connected to the brain by a stalk, but there are no direct nerve connections of the pineal gland with the brain. Instead, postganglionic sympathetic nerve fibers derived from the superior cervical ganglia supply the pineal gland. – Preganglionic fibers to the superior cervical ganglia derive from the lateral column of the spinal cord. The function of the pineal gland is regulated by sympathetic nerves.
