Course outcome To acquaint the student with analytical methods for (bio-based) polymeric materials with a heavy emphasis on nanosized objects and surface analysis. to roughly understand the principles of each analytical technique to understand what kind of information can be gained with each technique to choose the correct analytical technique for the desired analysis 3

Course contents Spectroscopy: principles and practice of Infrared and Raman spectroscopy + some more limited surface sensitive techniques Chromatography: basics of high performance liquid chromatography and size exclusion chromatography Microscopy: electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy Surface analysis: Surface sensitive techniques and model film approach 4

Laboratory exercise labworks intended for a 6 week period March - April works are mainly demo-based however, you have to interpret the results yourself (time consuming) in the end, everyone writes a report on the methods and results DEADLINE for the report: Friday 25 th May EVERYBODY MUST PARTICIPATE IN THE LABWORKS. MORE INFORMATION ON THE TIMES AND DATES WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON. 9
