1 The Institute of Advanced Judicial Studies was established in 1984 in memory of the late Justice Yoel Sussman, former president of the Supreme Court of Israel. In its activities, the Institute stresses the need for an efficient judicial system, and organizes training courses in order to increase the efficiency of the judges' work, including their administrative tasks. In addition to training by subject, special training courses are held for courts empowered with special jurisdiction, such as Family Courts and Labor Courts. The Institute operates from offices located on the premises of the Supreme Court and is granted total independence. About Us2008 ProgramStaffContact Us About US More

2 At its inception, the Institute organized a few training courses a year for acting judges. The number of courses has increased over the years, and at present stands at about fifty courses per annum. The training courses are open to all judges and every course is attended by 25-40 participants. Once every year, the Institute holds training courses for new judges. The goals of the training courses are to discuss issues and questions that arise at the outset of a judge's tenure, and to acquaint the judges with the various public entities that are in constant contact with the courts such as the Israeli Police Force, the Prison Service, the Probation Services and the Public Defender's Office. Every year, the Institute holds Special Evaluation Courses for lawyers who are candidates for judicial nomination. The aim of the courses is to assist with the admission process and to single out candidates who are interested in becoming Judges. The Institute conducts courses for lawyers who are candidates for the position of Court Registrar and for Court Registrars who are candidates for the position of judges. More
