1. COMPARATIVES AND SUPERLATIVES

2. For adjectives with one syllable, we add er or r for the comparative, and the + est or st for the superlative
● Mount Everest is higher than Mount Kilimanjaro.
● Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world

3. Big – bigger/ the biggest Hot – hotter / the hottest
When the adjective ends with one vowel + 1 consonant, we double the consonant in the comparative and the superlative.
Big – bigger/ the biggest
Hot – hotter / the hottest
● Russia is bigger than Australia
● Russia is the biggest country in the world

4. For most adjectives with two or more syllables, we use more and the most to form the comparative and the superlative.
● Tokio is more expensive than London.
● Tokio is the most expensive city in the world.

5. For two syllable adjectives ending in consonant + y, we use ier /iest for the comparative and the superlative.
● The Atacama desert is drier than England.
● The Atacama desert is the driest place in the world.

6. As…as…
We use as+ adjectives+ as…to say that two things or people are the same, and not as + adjective + as… to say they are different.
● The blue whale’s tongue is as heavy as an African elephant.
● London is not as expensive as Tokio.
